Biography

Geetika Jakhar is the first Indian woman wrestler to get the prestigious Arjuna Award.

She was hardly 13 when she got into this combat sport. Her grandfather, Ch. Amar Chand Jakhar, was her inspiration, who himself was an accomplished wrestler

She became ‘Bharat Kesari’ at age 15 when she beat Sonika Kaliraman in 200 at the dangal final of Delhi.

Born on August 18, 1985 in Agroha, Haryana, Geetika has been appointed a senior police officer with the Haryana Police.

Career

2003 Asian Championship (Delhi): Won Silver

One year later, she went on to win the Gold medal at Alma Ata

2005 Asian Championship (Korea): Brought home a Silver medal

The same year, she also made her way to the Silver at the World Championship in Vilnius, Lithuania

2006 Asian Games (Doha): Claimed a Silver medal

2014 (Incheon) Claimed Bronze
